Google has launched its new AI Campus in London's Somers Town district today, with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer attending the opening of the educational initiative aimed at diversifying Britain's next generation of AI talent.
The tech giant unveiled a two-year pilot programme developed in partnership with Camden Council and Camden Learning, targeting sixth form students with a focus on underrepresented groups. The inaugural cohort includes 32 students, with preference given to applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds, including those eligible for Free School Meals.
Alongside the campus launch, Google.org announced an £865,000 grant to the Raspberry Pi Foundation to expand its Experience AI programme. The initiative, co-created with Google DeepMind, aims to reach an additional 250,000 students across the UK by the end of 2026 through collaboration with ParentZone.
The AI Campus will provide students with access to cutting-edge resources in AI and machine learning, along with mentoring from experts at Google and Google DeepMind. Starting mid-2025, the facility will expand its reach to offer out-of-school learning and AI-focused masterclasses to the broader Camden student community.
