Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google, have announced new initiatives to help nonprofits harness the power of artificial intelligence (AI) at its inaugural Impact Summit today.

The announcement comes in response to a recent Google.org survey, which found that while 80% of nonprofits believe generative AI could be applicable to their work, nearly half are not currently using the technology.

To address this gap, Google.org is launching a dedicated website with AI resources for social impact organisations. Additionally, the organisation is opening the second round of the Google.org Accelerator: Generative AI programme, offering up to $30 million in funding and support for organisations developing high-impact AI applications.

The third initiative introduces new AI features in the Ad Grants programme, including Performance Max and a conversational experience for Search campaigns. These tools aim to help nonprofits create more effective ad campaigns and engage better with donors and beneficiaries.

Andrew Dunckelman, Head of Economic Opportunity at Google.org, highlighted the importance of these efforts: "By providing nonprofits with the tools and knowledge to leverage AI, we're helping them amplify their impact and address critical societal challenges more efficiently."

These new programmes build on Google.org's existing commitment to the nonprofit sector, which includes $18 billion in product donations over the past two decades and nearly $6 billion in cash funding in the last 10 years alone.
