Google.org, the philanthropic arm of tech giant Google, announced ambitious plans to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) in addressing global challenges at its inaugural Impact Summit held today.
Since its inception, Google.org has provided over $18 billion in donated products and nearly $6 billion in cash funding over the past decade. Its efforts have reached more than 300 million people worldwide, including setting up 3 million individuals with skills for well-paying jobs and equipping over 10 million students and teachers with digital safety skills.
Google.org announced several new initiatives, including an $8 million commitment to DataKind to expand an AI-based programme that has shown success in improving college graduation rates. Additionally, Google.org pledged $12 million to support organisations using AI to transform education equitably.
In the scientific realm, Google.org introduced "AI Collaboratives," a new funding approach aimed at fostering cross-sector collaboration on AI-powered solutions. They also committed $40 million to support responsible AI research in academia.
For community resilience, Google.org is investing $10 million in the Raspberry Pi Foundation's "Experience AI" programme, aiming to reach 2 million young people across Europe, Middle East, and Africa with AI education.
