In a landmark demonstration that has sent shockwaves through privacy circles, two Harvard students have exposed how Meta's smart glasses can be modified to identify and "dox" strangers within seconds. Their research reveals an unsettling truth: the convergence of consumer technology and artificial intelligence has created surveillance capabilities that were previously the domain of science fiction.

AnhPhu Nguyen and Caine Ardayfio's investigation demonstrates how readily available smart glasses can be linked to facial recognition engines and people-search databases, creating a system they named I-XRAY. "This synergy between LLMs and reverse face search allows for fully automatic and comprehensive data extraction that was previously not possible with traditional methods alone," the researchers explained in their documentation.

The researchers specifically chose Meta Ray-Bans 2 because they "look almost indistinguishable from regular glasses," making them ideal for covert surveillance. Testing their modified glasses at a subway station, they proved how easily the technology could be misused for stalking or scamming. To demonstrate the system's capabilities while maintaining ethical standards, they even covered up the recording indicator light – a sobering illustration of how easily privacy safeguards can be circumvented.
