Mercado Libre, Latin America's largest e-commerce and fintech company, has announced the launch of Verdi, a groundbreaking AI developer platform powered by OpenAI's GPT-4o, GPT-4o mini, and GPT-3.5 Turbo models.

Verdi represents a significant leap in Mercado Libre's AI strategy, designed to handle complex tasks autonomously and more efficiently than human operators. The platform is already transforming how the company manages customer service and other intricate operations.

Daniel Rabinovich, Mercado Libre's COO, underlined the transformative potential of Verdi: "With Verdi, humans become co-pilots to the AI instead of the other way around. This platform can autonomously decide on cases, manage complex interactions, and even handle tasks requiring a human touch."

One of Verdi's most significant early applications is in customer service mediation. In just a few months, the platform has begun handling 10% of customer service mediation on one of Mercado Libre's major sites. The company projects that Verdi could potentially support the tasks of 9,000 human operators, and autonomously manage customer service decisions, involving $450 million annually.

Sebastian Barrios, SVP of Technology at Mercado Libre, highlighted the unique features of Verdi: "We designed our ideal AI platform using GPT-4, with a focus on lowering cognitive load and enabling the entire organisation to iterate, develop, and deploy new innovative solutions."

Verdi boasts several key features, including seamless integration with Mercado Libre's internal developer platform, built-in security protocols and guardrails, the ability to process and interpret diverse data types, and scalability to handle complex, multi-faceted tasks autonomously.

The company plans to expand Verdi's capabilities further, integrating more advanced AI solutions like search assistants and product recommendations to better serve Mercado Pago's 50 million active users each quarter.
