NVIDIA has joined the Partnership for Global Inclusivity on AI (PGIAI), a new initiative launched by the U.S. government. The partnership, announced by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the U.N. General Assembly in New York, seeks to leverage AI technology to foster sustainable development across the globe, with a particular focus on emerging economies.

The tech giant is not alone in this endeavour. Other major players in the AI industry, including Amazon, Anthropic, Apple, Google, IBM, Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI, have also joined the partnership. Collectively, these companies have pledged to provide access to training, compute resources, and other AI tools to drive sustainable development and improve quality of life in developing nations.

NVIDIA's commitment to the initiative includes providing Deep Learning Institute training, GPU credits, and hardware and software grants to developing countries. This support aims to empower local communities to innovate using AI technologies.

A key aspect of the PGIAI initiative is its recognition of the importance of cultural sensitivity in AI development. The partnership emphasises the need for understanding and respecting diverse cultures, languages, and traditions in the communities where AI services are provided. This approach aims to ensure that AI development is not only technologically advanced but also culturally appropriate and beneficial to local populations.

As part of its commitment, NVIDIA will provide approximately $10 million in free training to universities and developers. This initiative is designed to support AI development for local solutions and development goals in emerging economies.

Furthermore, NVIDIA's global Inception programme, which supports startups in emerging economies, has already made significant strides. In 2024, the programme provided access to over $60 million worth of free cloud compute credits through partners to startups in developing nations. The programme currently supports nearly 5,000 startups with technical expertise, go-to-market support, and hardware and software discounts.

The PGIAI initiative comes at a time when concerns about the global digital divide and unequal access to AI technologies are growing. By focusing on increasing access to AI models, APIs, compute credits, and local datasets, along with providing technical training, the partnership aims to address these disparities and ensure that the benefits of AI are more equitably distributed worldwide.
