X.AI has announced a significant update to its Grok AI model, making it available to all users on the X platform at no cost. The new version of Grok-2 boasts three times faster performance and improvements in accuracy, instruction-following, and multilingual capabilities.
The company has also introduced several new features, including web search and citations, allowing Grok to provide information from both X posts and broader internet sources. Users can now verify information through provided citations and explore source materials in greater depth.
For developers, X.AI is releasing two new API models: grok-2-1212 and grok-2-vision-1212. The company has reduced API pricing to $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. New users can start with $25 in free credits.
The platform is also introducing a new "Grok button" that will appear across users' home timelines, designed to help provide context and deeper understanding of real-time events and trending discussions.
While Premium and Premium+ subscribers will receive higher usage limits and priority access to new features, the core Grok functionality is now accessible to all X users as part of this rollout.
