xAI has announced the beta release of Grok-2, its latest language model boasting significant improvements in reasoning and performance.
Launched on August 13, Grok-2 and its smaller counterpart, Grok-2 mini, are now available to users on the x platform. The company claims Grok-2 outperforms both Claude 3.5 Sonnet and GPT-4-Turbo on the LMSYS leaderboard, a popular competitive language model benchmark.
The release is advertised as offering enhanced performance across various academic benchmarks, and state-of-the-art capabilities in visual maths reasoning and document-based question answering. It also integrates real-time information from the 𝕏 platform. xAI plans to make Grok-2 available through its enterprise API in the near future.
Additionally, xAI is collaborating with Black Forest Labs to expand Grok's capabilities on x, using their FLUX.1 model.
Going forward the company plans to release a preview of multimodal understanding as a core part of the Grok experience soon.
